CarnEvil of Souls is a gothic children’s tale inspired by the long-lost German novel Verlorene Seele (The Lost Souls), itself rooted in the infamous 1711 carnival disaster. Rarely known in American literature, the story became an enduring European fable and is often credited as the origin of the children’s song “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.” Told in the macabre, whimsical tradition of Edward Gorey, Dr. Seuss, and Tim Burton, the story follows eight children swept away from their traveling carnival by a great storm. Lost between worlds, they drift into the NeverGone - a strange, forgotten place where wishes linger and time stands still. There, the mysterious ringmaster Mr. Floats embarks on a harrowing journey to guide the Lost Souls home, confronting jealousy, regret, and the cost of being forgotten. As truths surface and forgiveness is tested, the children must decide whether they can return - and whether the carnival they left behind can be restored. A visually rich and emotionally resonant story, CarnEvil of Souls is a haunting fairy tale about loss, redemption, and the power of being remembered.
Legendary actor Keith David (Hazbin Hotel, The Thing, Spawn, Gargoyles, Coraline, and The Princess & The Frog) will narrate this delightfully macabre children’s book. His unmistakable voice brings unique gravitas, charm, and eerie elegance to this illustrated love letter to Tim Burton and Edward Gorey.
The incredible David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil, Dune, The Dark Knight, Suicide Squad) has joined our twisted tale as our Uninvited Archivist of the CarnEvil of Souls - Your guide who will lead you through the shadowy B-Side of my vinyl, where lost souls whisper and secrets lurk.
Join Keith David, David Dastmalchian, and the creative team in celebrating this hauntingly elegant tale, and help ensure that the world of Mr. Floats continues to enchant audiences for generations to come before the campaign closes on October 31st, 2025.
